Training Collar Stops
Hunting dog..?
my 15 month black lab is a very eager retriever on land and in water, he's a natural, i've never trained him before. However, when in the field he gets OVER excited when i shoulder mount the gun, how can i stop this? Also, would using a training collar stop him running in after the shot?
those that don't HUNT , go and be a volunteer in IRAQ or something, STOP castigating a good sport.
Its all in the pedagree so to speak,, thats what there bread for so its the natural instinct to want to hunt.
A little training will soon cerve the problem.
When you mount the gun the fact that he seems to come to life is not a problem, he is more than likley marking the target should you bring it down.
The problem is if he runs in when you pull the trigger.
An obedient dog will sit to heal no matter what, untill given a command ether vocaly, by hand or whistle.
I have always refused to use the collar and will never encourage anyone els to do so,, its the lazzzy way of teaching if you ask me,, with a little time and persaverance you can teach him anthing.
Use a lead and make him walk to heal (instruct it to him at all times) Once lead is on run it back then between front and back legs , this is one good way of making him walk to heal. ounce your confedent, take the lead away,,,.
As for running in get your self a dummy launcher or dummy and work on makeing him sit,
Persaverance and a pocket full of treats work like no other.
You can make a dog do anthing ouce he knows he is going to get a treat for doing it right.
Your traing will onley work if you are ferm with him and show who is the boss.
