where do animals that cant make fat store calories?
if fat worked in arthopods and turtles like they do for mammals, they would have shed for sometimes larger or smaller shells waaaaaaay too often. so unless huge air pockets are made as reserved space for fat that may or may not be there at the moment, how else could they possible store it without drastically changing the volume and/or of their rigid exoskeletons?
Adipose tissue or just fat is loose connective tissue composed of adipocytes. It is technically composed of roughly only 80% fat; fat in its solitary state exists in the liver and muscles. Adipose tissue also serves as an important endocrine organ by producing hormones such as leptin, resistin, and the cytokine TNFα. The formation of adipose tissue appears to be controlled by the adipose gene.
