Organic Cotton Clothes: An Ecologically Sound Choice For Many Causes
If you wish to eliminate harmful products from your everyday life, you should consider making the change to putting on only organic and natural cotton clothing. Cotton is well known for its potential to wrinkle should you do so much as look at it wrong. Cotton that does this will not be treated with a chemical called Formaldehyde. Formaldehyde links with the natural elements of organic cotton, which prevents it from wrinkling. Most cottons are now treated with this chemical in order to reduce the amount of work it takes to have cotton clothes.
In addition to Formaldehyde, as though wearing a cancer-causing agent was not harmful enough, the methods that non organic cotton goes through does a number on environmental surroundings. Non organic cotton is actually grown with a list of fertilizers and chemical pesticides used to guard and motivate growth of these plants. However, these fertilizers and chemical pesticides wash down out of the fields and directly into the ecosystems.
Out of the local ecosystems, these compounds go directly into the rivers, which subsequently flow into the oceans. The result is typically the growth of dead zones, such as the one located in the Gulf of Mexico. Simply by refusing to buy anything but organic cotton clothes, you send a communication to the bank accounts of producers of non organic cottons.
The problem with organic cotton clothing is that not enough people have demanded it. While the movement is picking up, only when individuals demand high quality, organic cotton clothes, will the mass producers of chemically boosted clothes lower. Only when these non organic producers change their methods of growing and treating cotton, will the influence of the damage caused to the environment be lessened.
If you own organic cotton clothing, you will want to make sure that you are only using natural cleaning products with your cotton clothing. Cotton can bond with many substances and hold residue in the fiber of the threads. When using natural cleaning products, you will know that you will not be wearing any additional chemicals.
The average person consumes a great deal of non natural chemical compounds on a daily basis, so removing exposure to such chemicals as often as you can is important for preventing cancer and maintaining the environment.
Using organic cotton clothing is only the beginning. From your clothes, you can adjust to consuming organic foods and using natural cleaning products in efforts of living a green lifestyle.
Just remember, eating organic foods does not give any additional health benefits from eating other vegetables. You only lower the amount of trace chemicals introduced into your system as well as protect against excess chemicals from being dumped into the environment.
