Things for puppy to chew on?
I have a 3 month puppy who is small - about 7 pounds. She always wants to eat what my other dogs chew on (beef tendons, bully sticks, natural rawhides, etc.) but for obvious reasons, I don't let her. I have puppy teething sticks that are flexible and easy to chew for her, but it doesn't occupy her for that long.
I was wondering if their is anything besides nylabones and kongs that would keep her occupied when I am gone?
The obvious reasons is that they can damage her teeth - she is extremely small, and even when she tries to chew on those things, she doesn't actually get anything off of them.
Natural rawhide is fine to give to her. Just because she can't really 'eat' it doesn't mean it's not okay for her teeth or digestive system. My dog was downing those rawhide sticks at five pounds, so she'll know what to do and will eventually acquire stronger jaw muscles.
Knotted socks are GREAT, as are any squeaky toys (without anything that can easily be ripped off and swallowed ... I always cut off the attached tags, as well). Rubbery squeakies are my dog's favorite ... they keep him occupied and help his teeth. Ice cubes are also great. Puppies will chase the cubes around and also chew on them (quite gingerly!) Helps their teeth and gums.
