Can a dog eat a natural loofah sponge and be ok?
My dog ate my wife's natural loofah sponge . . . no chemicals . . . it was smaller.
She is a 7 year old basset hound, and she ate a small piece. I think I will watch her and see how things go. She is acting normal so far.
How big was the sponge? How big is the dog? Is the dog able to keep food/water down? The thing dogs will never realize (and so they depend on us to be the smart ones) is that their esophagus and stomach are BIGGER in diameter than the rest of their GI tract. What they swallow may not give them any problems...until the object gets stuck further down the line. A visit to the vet and an abdominal x-ray would be a good idea - a very, very, very good idea. Yep, that means money, and that's no fun. However...it wasn't the dog that left the loofah in the wrong place, was it?? (Pet owners often dislike that question). If there is ANY sign of GI upset or vomiting - then I'd say your decision has been made for you - GET to a vet.
