Electric Collars - Why Remote Training Collars are Humane

Perhaps you feel that training with electric collars results in harming a pet when it could be avoided in the first place. It's this perceived harm that prevents some pet owners of taking advantage of electric collars to train their dog to shed unwanted behavior. If you go through a list of alternatives - not all of them maybe cost-effective. For curious and overeager pets, you may want to install or have someone install a physical fence around your home - but renters can't do that, and even when you do own your home, think of the costs of labor and materials. Some of those who do are not allowed to owing to zoning rules.

There are two items one could learn which would make this dislike for using remote training collars fade away. First, hurting the dog on a whim is not part of training it; it's simply being cruel. You must list down clearly what those unwanted behavior are. After that you must keep watch to spot those behaviors. You need to be consistent in punishing, or triggering the shock on the collar via your transmitter, only when the dog engages in your articulated unwanted behavior. This is not to be done on a whim.

The goal is over time, when the dog associates the unwanted behavior with the static correction, that the dog will refrain from engaging in them. Be aware that you can trigger the collar at any time. The correction must happen only when particular behavior is engaged in. If your dog is a about to take a running leap into garden, you can buzz it. Should you catch your dog digging up the garden, probably going to bury something, buzz it. But you should not buzz your pet just because you're annoyed at it. You'll just be needless cruel to your pet.

The intensity level of the collar can be adjusted. Low settings are the default ones, but when you notice your pet has gotten used to the low setting enough to do what it likes despite the low shock, by all means jack up the intensity level. You need to find a setting that startles your dog enough to mind what it's doing, to stop at what it's doing or is about to do.

The second item dog owners must know. Remote training collars are not limited to having static or shock as the stimulus available. The other type, one of the best, is the spray type.

If you care about the dog, you will want to be humane to it, and avoid pointlessly inconveniencing it; you may also want to try an alternative to shock or static collars. It follows that when buying remote electric collars, you need to either choose a static or spray type, and choose one with adjustable settings.
