What are the basic grooming tools for a English cocker spaniel?
I just want all the tools that can groom the dog, not those fancy ones and im not planning to show mine. And how often do you groom and bathe them?

If you can, bring your cocker into a professional a few times and ask if you can watch. That's how I learned to groom mine. A lot of groomers will refuse, which is understandable, otherwise how will they make money? There are also videos on the internet, though I found those didn't really teach me anything.
Ideally, you should brush everyday with fine comb and a slicker, but a two or three times a week is fine. Bathing should be done once a month to month and a half. Use a soap-free shampoo (Tropiclean is great; it smells DELICIOUS and their shampoos use natural cleansers) and a separate conditioner containing things like Vitamin E and oatmeal (again, Tropiclean).
Because they are especially prone to ear infections, make sure to put cotton balls in their ears while bathing, and keep the hair around the ears shaved close to make sure they're getting as much ventilation as possible.
A cocker's ears need to be cleaned once every two weeks (more if they have a problem with ear infections). I've gone through dozens, literally, of commercial-brand ear cleaners and have finally settled on a homemade solution.
Be sure to treat outside - the Gentian Violet tends to stain blue or purple.
- use Boric Acid Powder only NOT LIQUID. The powder sooths the ear - liquid will burn. Found on the first aid aisle.
- ask the pharmasist what aisle to find the Gentian Violet on - the regular store associates will have NO idea what you are asking for
- NEVER USE THIS if the ear drum is punctured!
INGREDIENTS:
16 Oz. Isopropyl Alcohol 70%
4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder
16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%
Mix together in alcohol bottle and shake well.
You will also need to shake solution every time you use it to disperse the Boric Acid Powder.
To use, purchase the "Clairol" type plastic bottle or a small baby ear syringe bottle to dispense solution to affected ears.
Evaluate condition of ears before treating and if very inflamed and sore do not attempt to pull hair or wipe ear at all. Wait until inflammation has subsided before wiping, which will be about 2 days after initial flush.
Shake the bottle each time before using.
Put cotton balls or similar absorbent material under the ear.
Flood the ear with solution, (gently squirt bottle), massage gently to the count of 60, wipe with a tissue.
Flood again on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massage. The dog will shake out the excess which can be wiped with a tissue, cotton ball, etc as the Gentian Violet does stain fabrics.
