what are peoples view on lurchers?
i have two lurchers, a deerhound greyhound x and a greyhound saluki x. i have had a lot of negative comments recently, mainly claiming that ex working lurchers dont make good pets, even though mine are well behaved and return as soon as called when off the lead. has anyone else with lurchers or maybe greyhounds encountered this
sorry to not be more specific about the correct terms smart arse! and yes i do know what a longdog and a lurcher and a whirrier is but as its just a question on peoples experiances and not the specifics of the breeding of all running dogs, i didnt bother to mention it!
tryin again what exactly is your point? the question i posted has nothing what so ever to to with your reply! if everyone wanted a lesson on correct terms they would ask!! i have classed my dogs as lurchers as a general term so i could hear other peoples views on the question!
I suppose the question to ask is, "Do YOU like them?".
If the answer to that question is "yes", then who cares what other people think?

As for my opinion on lurchers - the ones I've met have been great. (Same goes for the long-dogs I've met! - lol).
I must admit don't often hear anybody say anything negative about any sight-hounds, or their crosses, although since Emma Milne's hatchet-job on greyhounds earlier this year - a few people have been far more nervous around mine.
Staffies are the breed that receive the most negative comments where I live.
I do know a few people with dogs of the same cross as yours, but never known them to have any negative comments.
I've lost count of the number of times people have stopped to admire and make positive comments about my greyhound whilst I'm out walking him.
All I can think is that the negative comments you receive must be a regional thing. Take them as an opportunity to (calmly and politely) educate them.
