My new puppy cries when I leave..what can I do?
I got a 10 week old rat terrier two days ago. It's a girl and when she was with her former owner she stayed OUTSIDE!!! and it is super cold here..thats why they had to give them away. Well anyway on the first night my family and I gave her some gourmet dog food and she loved it..but when I left she cried. Yesterday I took her to the vet to get her shots and a spa treatment, now its like she's rotten. I have a crate and everytime I leave she cries and then pees and sometimes poops in it. But when I return she is fine. What can I do about this??
My dog used to do this. Train her.
1) Put her in the crate with a treat and go out of the room for... 10 minutes, always increasing the time you are out.
2) Come back inside, but do not react to her happiness in any way. Just let her out.
3) Repeat.
