When traveling with your pet, the best tip is to prepare well in advance. If you are taking your pet on a flight, reserve a direct flight to your destination to avoid lengthy travel times. Arrive at the airport early and wait until the last minute before you give your pet to airport personnel. It is not necessary to tip.
Whenever you travel it is of utmost importance that you use luggage tags. Luggage tags are easy to find in most stores and are very cheap. The reason you need to use them is so that you will be able to locate your luggage quickly and won't accidentally have a mix up with someone else's bags that are the same as yours!
When taking photos on a trip, upload them each day if you have access to a computer or brought a laptop with you. This way, even if something should happen to your camera, you will still have the pictures from your trip online and easy to access from any computer.
If you are traveling for a long length of stay and in many different locations, consider buying cheap underwear in bulk. Once you wear the underwear, all you have to do is throw them away instead of repacking the dirty ones or worrying about washing and drying them. It is a wonderful way to lessen your luggage as you travel, as well.
If you are traveling by flight with your animal, and you had to check your pet in to cargo, stand at the gate window and look for your animal being boarded. Be the last to board the plane, and once all of the passengers have boarded, request the gate attendant to radio the baggage area to make sure your pet was loaded.
Stick to bottled water while traveling in foreign countries. Tap water, if it's available, may not be treated the same as it is at home, which can cause traveler's diarrhea. Bottled water is free from parasites and bacteria that can cause you to get sick, making it your safest bet for drinking and preparing coffee and food.
When planning a trip to an overseas destination, check to see which vaccinations you might need. Your doctor or the CDC are both good places to get information. Be sure to plan this step a few weeks before you plan to leave, because some vaccines do not take effect immediately.
If you are traveling by air with your pet, be sure to have the pet wear a collar with proper tags. Have your pet micro-chipped beforehand in case the pet gets lost. Most airlines have scanning devices to scan for microchips for owner information. Also, bring current pictures of your pet that you can give out to airport personnel should a problem arise and they need to look for your pet.
