Puppy pees on his dog bed, but not in his crate. What gives?
I have a 13 week old golden retriever. He has his crate upstairs in our bedroom and a fleece dog bed downstairs in the kitchen. He's done very well with potty training, and I'm home full time with him so he's got a pretty reliable routine. He doesn't go to the bathroom in his crate, so I think it's safe to say he's crate trained. I just saw a wet spot in his dog bed while I was doing dishes in the kitchen, so I went over and sniffed. It smelled like pee. I took off the fleece cover and there are 3 or 4 dried yellow spots on the foam beneath it. So why is he peeing on his bed? He hangs out in there all the time while I cook and he stores all of his toys in there, so I know he feels attached to the bed. I just can't figure out why he'd pee on it. Why is he doing that and how can I stop it?

13 weeks is still very young for a puppy to be toilet trained [i JUST have my chihuahua doing it outside and she's 6 months! i should have started earlier really but meh] anyway, i think they learn with time. they haven't quite grasped that outside is where you go and places inside aren't where you go. they need to make the connection between outside and inside. there may be a valid reason why he's doing it just in the bed, maybe because he used to when he was younger or there's a certain smell on the bed?
but honestly, i'd just give it time but if he's still doing it then try and catch him at it and say 'no' to him. then take him immediately outside just so they can make the connection. if he does a wee then outside, give him LOTS of praise, they really work off of that.
