how many inches tall is the average dog head?
I am looking for a dog and i need one that is under 20 inches. I have a few ideas but it only tells how many inches it is up to the shoulders. I need to know from the shoulders up to the top of its head how many inches is it including the neck.
Well i know some dogs head hang low with the rest of their body like bulldogs but others carry their head higher than their shoulders. so if it did hang higher than the shoulders how many inches would it be?
That would be highly variable depending on breed... for example a Bulldog does not carry it's head much higher than the rest of it's body, whereas a dog like a Fox Terrier has a long upright neck and carries it's head significantly higher than it's shoulder.
I would imagine that most toy breeds are under 20 inches at the top of the head. Beyond that you'd have to carry a ruler around to find out. Why does a dog "have" to be under 20 inches at the head? Nobody measures dogs that way, so it seems like a strange requirement.
Edit: It would depend on the total height of the dog, really... I mean, a Chihuahua stands around 8-9 inches at the shoulder, it would probably be 12 inches at the top of the head. A Beagle that stands 13" at the shoulder, would probably be 18" at the top of the head... bigger dogs, longer necks, bigger heads... I mean, every breed is entirely different. There's just no way to tell unless you measure an individual dog.
