Tips on house training a very stubborn puppy mill rescue dog?
Our nonprofit rescue has a female puppy mill rescue Bichon Frise. She was in a foster home but that foster home got frustrated with her potty habits and we found out she hadn't been trying much to house train her. She's in a new foster home but that foster home needs tips on how to house train her. She will go outside for an hour long walk but as soon as she goes back in the house she's peeing and pooping all over.
Anyone have any tips? Has anyone ever used a doggy diaper (belly band) on a female dog before? Did it help?
She can't keep bouncing around foster homes and ruining carpet. Help?
Oh and just so everyone knows, this dog is 3 years old. She's not a puppy anymore, so she's stuck in her ways. Thats what is probably making this more difficult.
One more edit LOL. She does get to go outside for potty breaks too. I was just saying, even if she is outside for an hour she'll still wait until she's back in to do her business.

I had a puppy mill boy who was 7 years old. Crated his entire life. You have to treat her as if she is a puppy. Crate and out every hour on the hour for strict potty time. Take her out give her a bathroom command "go time" "potty" whatever. Stand there no walking or talking. she will go. If she does give her a treat and a soft praising (PMPs are not used to excited human voices and often do not see them as praise) Then keep her tethered to you in the house so you know exactly where she is for a little while. Then back to the crate when busy. Out in an hour form put back time (puppies it would be hourly to two no matter how long they got free time, she will be different because she is "able" to hold it. Just doesn't know she is supposed to. You repeat this time she gets it. My boy took 3 months. He is now a loving companion for an older couple and completely house trained and even loves to socialize now ( 2 years later) with lots of people.
