I own a siberian husky and i need some help with these problems im having with her.?
I have a 9 month old siberian husky we saved from pet rescue because she was abondand as a little pup.
ive had her for two days, and she doesnt like my pet ferret, she nips at the cage obviously trying to eat or play with it.
she is obsessed with my ferret, i called her and she wont come to me, i take the palm of my hand and lightly tapped her trying to get her attention with her, she still doesnt look, she doesnt move, she just watches every move the ferret does in his cage.
second, she sleeps outside because she sheds like crazy, and we have a big backyard for her, a nice cozy dog house, and plenty of food and water.
im trying to work with her, but its complicated with her because she is a spaz.
any help you could suggest?
The person above me gave GREAT advice. Here is some more advice. A tired husky = a happy husky. They are extremely energetic and were bred to RUN RUN RUN! If she isn't getting enough exercise or attention she will resort to bad behavior. Or be a "spaz". =) If she's worn down she is more apt to be good and pay attention.
Huskies have this incredible prey drive. Most of them hate small furry creatures and love chasing them. There is always an exception to that rule. Mine gets along fine with our two cats. She is probably just fascinated by this small, furry thing that she can't get to! LOL!
Treats work wonders. A husky is easily bribed. Positive reinforcement is the best training for a husky. They DO NOT respond to screaming or yelling. It will just make them misbehave more.
The bottom line, yes huskies are very hard to train because they are extremely stubborn. No matter how well trained, if a husky doesn't want to do it, they won't!
It is nice two have two huskies. They are very social and usually do better with having a playmate. This is not always easy for someone to do though.
As far as the shedding. Please do not shave the dog. This can harm them. So many people think that shaving their dog will eliminate problems, but it can make them worse. Huskies have two coats. Their coats insulate them from cold and heat.
Huskies are going to shed at least once a year, it's often referred to as "blowing." If you live in a warmer climate they will shed even more. I live in Florida and mine blows his coat about 4 times per years. Get an undercoat brush
