Comb+Dog
Dog help and Min-Pin advice?

I'm getting a min-pin (Miniature Pinscher) soon that's female and 13 months old. It's going to be my first time having a dog and i'm not sure how i'm going to train the dog an what i will need. I know somethings i need but i'm not sure what else and how i'm going to house-train her so can you help me?

here's what i know i need,
-Collar
-Leash
-Food and Water bowl
-A Crate
-One of those dog pens
-Dog food and Dog treats
-One of those indoor pee mats
-Dog toothbrush and comb
-Dog bed
i'm not sure what else i need so advice and items would be appreciated

Start researching vets and trainers in your area. Every dog should be on heartworm preventative and a flea/tick preventative, and you can get these from a vet. Also, she's old enough to be spayed, and you should schedule that too. Ask your vet how to trim her nails and get your own trimmer. Unless she has a huge problem with getting her nails trimmed, you should do it yourself on an as-needed basis.

Also, every pet should receive some obedience training. Since you say this is your first dog, you should enroll in a class. Ask around, talk to the trainer and ask about her methods and if she's familiar with min pins.

Oh, and I almost forgot. While she's adjusting to her new home, it's inevitable she might have some potty accidents in the house or spit something up, so get some pet odor cleaner. If she doesn't make these messes you're in luck, but it's better to keep some on hand just in case! Does she need shampoo? You could wait and see what her coat and skin are like and then buy the right formula for her. Is it cold where you are? Small dogs have a hard time thermoregulating; a functional little coat would help her. That's all that comes to mind right now, congratulations and good luck!
