The hip device used in this procedure is shaped like a mushroom, hollow and is made of cobalt-chrome metal which is then placed as a replacement of the femoral head. The synovial fluid which normally coats and lubricates the surface of the hip joint allows the smooth movement of the artificial femoral head against the pelvic socket.
