Best way to home wash a cashmere sweater?
I just bought a 100% cashmere sweater from uniglo, its dry clean only but whats the best way to wash it at home without hurting it too much? I assume it be handwashing it with cold water letting it dry by it self on a flat surface?

It's actually better and gentler to hand wash cashmere sweaters than to have them dry cleaned. Hand washing cashmere is quite easy, but there are a couple things you need to know. You need to use a gentle liquid detergent and the best for fine sweaters made of alpaca, cashmere, angora and the like is either Woolite for hand-washables or good old Baby Shampoo. (i prefer the scent of baby shampoo) Fill a sink or basin with enough cold water to completely immerse the sweater. Add a tablespoon or two of baby shampoo and swish it around to make suds. Immerse the sweater in the suds and swish it gently until it's immersed and soaked through. Let it sit in the water for a few minutes, then gently swish again. Repeat a few times. Drain away the water and then rinse the sweater in several changes of ice cold water until the water is clear and there's no more detergent. Do NOT use fabric softener. Fabric softeners contain oils, fats and waxes that can cling to the fibers and make them stick together and then you loose the sweater's softness. Gently squeeze out excess water, then place on a thick cotton towel, and gently roll up the towel to soak up more water. DO NOT twist or wring out the sweater. This will make the fibers turn to felt. Dry flat away from direct heat. Shake the dry sweater to fluff it up. If there's any static electricity then brush over the surface with a dryer sheet.
