How long should it take to teach loose leash walking?

We have a 9 month old English Springer Spaniel. We've had her for 6 months and she has pulled on the leash ever since we've had her. I switched from a regular flat buckle collar to a gentle leader head collar about a month ago. It greatly reduces the pulling but she will still pull some. For the last 2 weeks I've switched back to a flat buckle collar and every time she pulls I turn around and go the opposite direction or just stand in place until she quits. I'm just curious how long it should take for her to figure it out and walk nicely all the time. I can see improvement but I still never get far on the walks due to stopping or turning around. Open to new suggestions or opinions. Please help!

well, it's not the leash, it's not the dog;; it's you;; you need to be pretty consistant with your expectations & you need to promote things for your dog to respond to;; the thing that always works for any dog I've had is to jog with them first;; they are out to exert; you need to exert, cuz anything else they can do in the yard or in the home;; so give them a little of what they want, & they'll turn around & respect you;; then after you have jogged a couple blocks (short ones hopefully), you can then "teach" him how to behave;; works every time;; then after a couple weeks you can just head out the door;; a dog will do WHATEVER you want him to do if you can read him (respect him)..good luck!!
