safe working load, nylon rope?
i have 3/16 in. nylon diamond braided rope, the package states a safe working load of 90 pounds.
does this mean it can handle more than 90lb, but if jerking is involved only 90 is safe? or is 90 all it can survive?
also, how bad is the sun for nylon rope?
also, does being wet affect it's strength
Sun does deteriorate it. During use on the lake it should be fine. Just be sure you store it out of the sun when off the lake. The 90 pound rating allows a safety margin. It may handle a bit more than that but it could shorten the life of it and going too far will, of course, cause it to fail. Most companies like to figure on a 20% safety margin so if it's rated for 90 lbs figure that it was tested to be able to handle around 110. Again, subjecting it to that much strain will result in early failure.
