Braided Nylon
What would be most important on this list if you were stranded on a mountain?
If you had to survive on a freezing mountain and only had these list of things which ones are the most important from greatest to least? And why?
-magnetic compass
-gallon of maple syrup
-sleeping bag per person
-bottle of purification tablets (water)
-5th of bacardi rum
-wind up alarm clock
-aircraft inner tube (14 in wheel)
-20x20 canvas (thick cloth)
-13 wood matches screw top container
-250 ft of braided nylon rope
-3 prs of snow shoes
-sharing kit mirror
-hand axe
-book "northern star navigation"
I am assuming that I am alone.
It depends on where the mountain was located and whether or not I could hike to civilization within a reasonable amount of time. (1 or 2 weeks maybe?)
Definitely the sleeping bag and the hand axe.
I would prefer a flint & steel to 13 matches. What happens after you have used the last match?
A compass would not be necessary, travel laterally on the mountain until you find a stream and follow it down the mountain. This assures a constant water supply. Eventually you will come across a road or civilization.
The #1 rule is STAY WITH THE WATER SUPPLY!
That means your compass is fairly pointless.
Canvas YES! I can make a backpack, shelter, sledge, toboggan and maybe (depending on what clothes I am wearing) more clothes.
Rope -- YES. 250 feet may be a bit much but, since it is light -- better to have too much than not enough!
Mirror? maybe for signaling.
Depending on the location of the mountain, water purification may not be necessary. If you are on a mountain, the water should be unpolluted and drinkable.
Syrup? Debatable -- quick energy but little nutritional value. I can chew resin gum from the pine trees for this!
Rum -- NO! If you can't feel the cold you are more likely to freeze to death or get severe frostbite.
Alarm clock -- what for?
Snow shoes? Definitely not 3 pair for 1 person! If necessary, I can make snowshoes with my hatchet, tree boughs and canvas.
I already know how to navigate by the stars, but the pages might be good for starting a fire.
