Dog tear stain !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
i own a bichon shih tzu cross and around his eyes are all brown like the one in the picture. i was wondering if there is a way i could get it out in 1 wash. home remedies would be better instead of having to go out and buy special eye wipes for him.

oh yeah he also has really bad breath anything i can sprinkle maybe on top of his food or sumthing

Ignore anyone who says that you have to live with stains- you don't!!!
you can either use wipes/lotions or food additives.
I tried a number of wipes/lotions but to be honest I was too lazy to do it every day. I was not willing to use the hydrogen peroxide products- bleach and eyes do not mix- I would rather a dog with stains than a blind dog!!! Most wipes will take a couple of weeks to remove the stains.
The food additives will take about a month (maybe less depending on how fast the hair grows). These are powders that you sprinkle on the food. I prefer this class of product because I am lazy.
Food additives fall into two classes: antibiotic and natural.
Tear stains are the result of the bacteria in the tears bonding with the metallic deposits in the tears as they rust. This bonding creates a red yeast. This is why the stains are red.
The antibiotics work by killing the harmless bacteria.
The natural products oxidise the metals safely inside the body so that they do not rust when they come out in the tears.
Either class will definitely work provided you don't skimp on the dosages.
Increasingly owners have become concerned about the long term use of antibiotics and many countries have banned the sale of them. Examples are Angels Glow and Angels Eyes- just about still legal in the US but illegal in most of the world (Europe, Australia, etc).
The natural products use nutrients and vitamins to fight the staining. These products are actually good for your dog and will boost their health- some even help combat skin conditions and bowl problems. These are safe in both the long and short term. The sales of these are predicted to out strip the more established antibiotic versions by Q3 2009.

Other things that you can try are-
filtered water in a metal bowl
vasaline around the eyes
keeping the eyes dry (not always possible though)
The biggest thing is diet change- eg the BARF raw food diet- identifying the problem foods is difficult though
