Agility Training
how should we start agility training?
i have a 19 week old cavalier king charles spaniel puppy named chelsea. I have often heard that cavaliers exel at agility. She is extremely fast and extremely smart. At 8 weeks old we set up a little course made of pillows that were set up as a small a-frame an a tunnel. we expected her to just go around it or not care but she did the course twice, really fast.we think she would like the sport of agility and want to know when we should start and how we should start. At the moment, the tunnel is fine but no A-frame. Firstly too young, secondly there is a "right way" to do equipment if you plan to compete later. If you train "stuff" wrong, it will be VERY hard to change the behavior later!!!
For now, I recommend you start looking for a good agility trainer...for the future. You can go to www.cleanrun.com and look for "clubs and trainers".
Nextly I recommend you find local agility trials and go and watch and watch so you know what it is you plan/hope to do later. For calendars of trials, go to each agility organization's website:

Call and talk to local trainers. They might set up a "private lesson" for you and show you what pre-agility training you can work on.
For now, what you work on is basic obedience: sit, down, stay and come and basic heeling. Work on running with your pup, on your left as well as your right. There is more, but can't explain in words, you have to see the movements in person; it is referred to as groundwork, or "work on the flat" (without equipment)
